Weldon Poe Currin, 85, peacefully went home to be with the Lord at 5:00 P.M. on March 15, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late James F. and Ruby C. Currin. He was a charter member of Landmark Baptist Church and was instrumental in site preparations. Poe was a retired tobacco farmer and a former employee of Ford Warehouse. He was founder and part owner of Tar River Fox Pen and was an avid fox hunter. He built the first Ethanol Plant on the east coast. Poe loved the game of baseball. He played semi-pro and received a full scholarship to Wake Forest University but was drafted to serve his Country in the Army and was unable to attend. He was instrumental as a Baseball Coach for Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, little league teams, pony league teams and was a coach at South Granville High School.
Poe is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Jane M. Currin of the home; a son, Stephen Craig Currin (Gayla), two daughters, Hope C. Mangum (David) and Amy C. Thompson (Chuck) all of Creedmoor; a sister, Paige Daniel of Creedmoor; five grandchildren, Brooke Parker, Chase Whisenhunt, Jamison Whisenhunt, Natalie DuBiel, Hunter Thompson; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a special niece, Dianne Bennett and friend, Cathy Newton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Currin Whisenhunt and granddaughter, Lindsey Weldon Currin and brothers, Frank, Roland, Bill and Aubrey Currin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Landmark Baptist Church by his son, Pastor Craig Currin. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Landmark Baptist Church Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:45 P.M. and at other times at the home.
